Test your computer for Conficker worm infection

. April 09, 2009

Are you infected by Conficker? Probably not. Conficker is a weak virus (worm) which can easily be detected by Avast. But just in case you wanted to test your computer for infection, do the following steps.

1. To determine if your computer is infected with Conficker, use the Conficker Eye Chart. If you see all 6 images in the top table, you're not infected.

Conficker Eye Chart

The rationale: Conficker (a.k.a. Downadup, Downandup, Kido) is known to block access to over 100 anti-virus and security websites. If you are blocked from loading the remote images in the first row of the top table above (AV/security sites) but not blocked from loading the remote images in the second row (websites of alternative operating systems) then your Windows PC may be infected by Conficker (or some other malicious software). Read the complete explanation here.

2. If you do NOT see all six (6) images, use Windows Live OneCare scanner.

The following image shows my computer is not infected. Why? Because I use Avast for maximum protection.
